Floatation

Floatation is a technique to develop a state of deep relaxation through lowering gravity force impact on the body. The best environment this can work is water saturated with salt (we discount a free fall from a very high altitude).

This is the most important factor – body has to be buoyant, suspended in water, only then the cumulative effect of lower blood pressure, slower heart rate, decreased brain activity ….. through state of weightlessness creates an experience of calm mind and happiness.

Today floatation therapy is offered by commercial wellness centers as typically 60, 90 minutes sessions in tanks filled with water with Epsom Salt heated to 35 C.

You step into the tank naked and lay down in maximum silence and darkness, hence popular name ‘sensory deprivation’

There is no large amount of research data on floatation due to a fact that it is still a relatively small industry, but even small trials confirm reduced experience of anxiety and stress, exceptional state of quiet mind, persisting for longer period of time.
