The Driifloat perspective
Driifloat - beats stress and fatigue
Life throws everything at us, at a pace and intensity that impacts the human body like a sledgehammer breaking through a brick wall.
The demands of work life and the need to perform in a connected world of instant decision, this is the world of unstoppable stimulation that produces more stress than we’ve ever had to deal with before as a human race.
Driifloat is a pure floatation therapy in a dry form. Under loose and tactile membrane there is water mixed with Epsom salt, heated to almost-human-body temperature (34°C/93°F)
Why we made it?
Monika I floated for the first time in Bangkok some 10 years ago. It was purely opportunistic, as my then boyfriend now husband Tony got the contract to install float cabins for a new wellness center there and so we took it as a chance to have a brief holiday break from London.
I knew about floatation theoretically for some time but I couldn’t see the point of it really - why would any logical person want to waste half a day for a dubious treatment with no clear benefit, not even mentioning having to pay a substancial fee? But unbearable jet lag (my first long haul flight!) turned off my logical brain functions, and when our generous host gave me a chance to try one of the pods already installed, I accepted. He also hinted that my headache may go away. The only thing I remember was the sensation of my body loosing its contours and disappearing in infinite darkness.
I slept more than an hour. The jet lag didnt completely disappear but something changed. An unusual lightness and calm replaced my groggy confusion. Calm stayed for days afterwards and I have been converted ever since.
But we needed a few more years - to realize how much we are missing out by not being able to experience floatation easily enough, and secondly to understand the technical problems of the floatation like maintenance, cost, safety etc and to find a first-principle based solution - real floatation, distinctly simplified. Which we are giving you now.
Tony I first floated years ago, about 20 or more I think. I slipped through the hatch door on the end of a ‘box thing’ which was a kind of float cylinder that looked more like a scientific experiment! But it worked its magic and I was convinced that there was something special going on here.
That experience took me into setting up my first float facility and from there to working on equipment design, manufacturing and installation. I’ve probably seen more of the US than the average American and been to many parts of the world helping facility operators with their floatation equipment - a great experience and a fun time meeting a lot of very nice people out there working in this particular industry!
So you might think that I’ve had hundreds of conversations about floating and the float experience, and you would be only partly right. But I’ve spent much more of my time working with peoples’ questions about filtration systems and chemistry and how to maintain pristine-looking water. Enough conversations to make me think about how we could do things differently.
So Driifloat was born out of necessity. A need to solve the over-bearing problem of water maintenance and the issue of how expensive all the equipment has become. If we could halve the cost of floatation equipment and make it all a lot easier, then wouldn’t that be great for facility operators. And wouldn’t it be amazing if floatation could come out of the dark and into the light! And be so much easier, cheaper and quicker for everyone to use.
If we all make this happen, then I think mainstream conversations about floatation would focus on how much this amazing treatment is contributing to a healthy society. Why not think big - how much can society change with a massive weekly dose of chilled-out deep-sleep energy boosting life-enhancing floatation. Am I enthusiastic? You bet I am!
